We're seeking a talented, experienced and motivated arts marketer with a passion for live comedy to come and work with us in our Edinburgh office.

A pragmatic, hands on leader, the successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience in print and digital promotion, brand management, social media, direct marketing, budget management and team motivation as well as the ability to manage communications with press, public and other stakeholders on behalf of the organisation.

MARKETING MANAGER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Full time (40 hours per week)
Responsible to: Managing Director
Responsible for: Part time Marketing Assistant, temporary Fringe staff including flyering team.

Job Description:

  • To deal with all aspects of the effective marketing of the three Stand Comedy Clubs in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle and The Stand’s Edinburgh Fringe programme.
  • To develop an integrated multi-channel marketing campaign to ensure that target audience numbers and income levels are achieved.
  • To develop and deliver an effective strategic marketing plan
  • To act as a brand champion, ensuring consistent messaging across all areas of the business
  • To manage the devolved departmental budget.
  • To manage other members of the marketing team
  • To manage communications with press, public and other stakeholders and be a spokesperson for the organisation.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop dynamic, targeted content across all channels.
  • Production of key print materials such as leaflets, posters and programmes, including writing copy, editing, liaison with designers, printers and distribution agencies.
  • Maintenance of the promotional aspects of the website, ensuring that all online information is accurate, relevant, timely and effective and improve web user experience and SEO.
  • Overall control of all social media communications including Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, and regular e-flyers to the club’s subscribers.
  • To work closely with the Programme and Box Office team as events are programmed and go on sale to maximise advance sales.
  • Regular monitoring and analysis of advance sales to identify areas of the programme which require to be prioritised in terms of marketing.
  • To develop the company’s membership scheme, reviewing the offering to members and increase the number of members.
  • To develop relationships with major employers in the public and private sectors, offering incentives to their workforces and to devise specific promotional activity to promote and sustain such schemes.
  • To work with other major entertainment providers to develop reciprocal promotional activity where this is not in conflict with the company’s own programme.
  • To work with tourist agencies and hotels on specific ticket promotions for short break visitors in all three cities.
  • To constantly review promotional offers to The Stand’s customer database to ensure that they are effective and attractive.
  • To maintain an up to date database of relevant media contacts and to ensure steady provision of news and feature type information designed to keep the profile of the clubs’ programme high.
  • To respond within deadline to requests from external media for information relating to the clubs’ programme.
  • To act as main contact and spokesperson in relation to all media.
  • To liaise with individual artists, publicists and agents in relation to the promotion of specific shows in the programme.
  • To oversee the provision of all programme listings across all media and on internal platforms.
  • To control advertising and print budgets and prepare plans to target spend where it will be most effective.
  • To work with specific sponsors on occasion to ensure that the promotional aspects of any sponsorship agreements are delivered.
  • To manage the work of the part time Marketing Assistant, prioritising and delegating tasks as appropriate.
  • To manage seasonal and freelance marketing staff as required.
  • To devise specific action plans relating to special events such as festivals, with particular reference to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
  • To work with individual venue managers to ensure that there is effective point of sale promotion with each club, maintain venue branding and signage and devise local strategies to boost sales and attendance,
  • To attend and advise meetings of the management team as required.
  • To monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the marketing plan and specific marketing campaigns and initiatives.
  • To report back to the Managing Director and the senior management team on the implementation of the marketing plan and the management of the departmental budget.


MARKETING MANAGER
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
Essential: the successful candidate will meet the majority of these requirements.
Experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role
  • Experience of working in an arts or cultural organisation
  • Proven track record of developing a marketing plan and managing marketing campaigns to deliver key attendance, income and other targets
  • Ability to proactively drive sales through brand and event marketing, promotions and offers
  • Experience of managing budgets
  • Experience of managing people – managing a happy, motivated team

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong planning and organisational skills including excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
  • Confidence in dealing with the media and acting as a spokesperson for the organisation
  • Ability to think strategically
  • Good knowledge of a broad range of social media channels - including but not limited to - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube
  • Excellent copywriting skills
  • Competency using MS Office software and Website CMS systems

Experience

  • Experience of using Photoshop or other design software.

Education, Training and Qualifications

  • Media, PR and Marketing or Arts related higher qualification
  • Membership of or involvement with Marketing professional bodies
