Does testosterone make you manly? Is PMS real? Hormones control everything – your health, mood, sex appeal, fertility, but do you control them? Synthetic chemicals can invade your body, mimicking and disrupting your hormones, and affecting your body, mind and behaviour. Are plastics in the environment making you fat? Are chemicals killing your sperm or damaging your foetus? Who is in charge here, anyway? Medical anthropologist Dr Andrea Ford (University of Edinburgh) challenges the notion that what’s inside your body is you, and what’s outside your body is someone else’s problem.
