Steve Bugeja : Almost

Saturday 9th March 2019

Steve Bugeja was voted “most likely to be forgotten” at school (the reunion was in February, apparently).
To prove his former classmates wrong, he hits the road for his third and largest UK tour to date with Almost, following three critically-acclaimed shows and direct from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Almost sees Steve trapped on a 13-hour flight when he receives a text that flips his entire world upside down, leading him to contemplate issues of great importance. Is finding “the one” possible? Can we trust the pharmaceutical industry? Any why are Japanese toilets so much better than ours?
Since winning the BBC New Comedy Award, Steve has appeared on shows including Love Island: Aftersun (ITV2), Russell Howard’s Good News (Comedy Central) and Top Tens (BBC3). Making a name for himself internationally, Steve has been invited to perform at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival twice, appearing on ABCTV’s Opening Night Comedy Allstars Supershow and twice on Comedy Up Late. Also a prolific writer, Steve was on the writing team for The Russell Howard Hour and has contributed material for shows including Mock the Week and The Now Show.
‘Drum tight, as if polished by a sitcom writers’ room to cram as many jokes in as humanly possible’ Chortle
‘An eye for comic detail that’s all his own’ Guardian
‘Plentiful jokes and compelling storytelling’ Scotsman

Justin Moorhouse - Northern Joker

Sunday 17th March 2019

These days Justin's not certain about anything apart from his uncertainty - Brexit looms, it appears the Cold War is being rebooted and that's before we begin to worry about what's happening in America... closer to home he's starting to feel redundant as a parent. One kid is leaving home, the dog is getting older and doesn't need much walking, and the youngest kid hists thirteen and cancels the family subscription to The Beano.
On top of this the golden age of the Northern straight white male comedian has gone the way of the dinosaurs. How will he adapt if he wants to survive? What next for this Northern Joker? What can he talk to his daughter about now she cares little for Dennis the Menace and the Bash St Kids?
Hang on.
Perhaps nothing has changed that much. When he was thirteen, the Russians were scary, the White House was a madhouse and he'd never been to Europe anyhow. Thinking back this was when his reading habits changed too, more Dark Knight than Desperate Dan, more Catwoman than Minnie the Minx. Perhaps our heroes never went away... they just waited for us to pick them up again. Perhaps she just needs a different type of comic.
'He charms the pants off the crowd' Sunday Times
'Comedic tour-de-force... brough a tear to a critical glass eye' Herald
'Simulataneously down-to-earth and out of this world' List
'The amount of first-rate comic craft that goes into his deceptively simple routines is worthy of admiration' Guardian
