We are an accredited Living Wage employer. This means we pay our employees according to the rates recommended by the Living Wage Foundation - not the lower National Living Wage set by the government. However, as well has having a commitment to our staff to ensure a fair days pay for a fair days work, we also want to provide the best deal for our audiences and make live comedy as accessible to everyone as possible. While paying the Living Wage does sometimes mean we have to pass extra costs on to the customer, we still endeavour to keep prices as low as we can. Our Edinburgh club also hosts a completely FREE improv comedy show every Sunday afternoon.
We’re not a massive venue - so usually best suited to couples and small groups of friends. As such we specifically limit the number of larger group bookings we take on any evening, so please get in touch with the box office rather than book individually or in smaller blocks as it can cause problems for you on the door and occasionally we have to turn away groups. We do ask for a bonded deposit for all larger groups - £10 per head payable in cash, by cheque or leave a card with us. If nothing else it's taxi money for the way home!
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY TICKETS?
Our weekend and special shows regularly sell out so it's best to book as far in advance as you can for those events. For most week night shows you are able to buy tickets at the door on the night, but we'd recommend arriving for the doors opening to ensure the best chance of entry. Our venues are all general admission and we are a mixture of seating and standing room, so best to arrive early to choose your preferred seating.
HOW DO I COLLECT MY TICKETS?
When booking you will have the option to collect your tickets at the venue door upon entry free of charge or you can select postage for the majority of our productions for £2 per booking transaction.
We will email you a confirmation of your booking.
To collect, we’ll need the booking name and/or Booking ID.
If you’re looking to collect your tickets upon entry the club, we advise arriving a little in advance of our door opening time as this allows you to join a queue. All venues are general admission and a mixture of seating and standing room.
For Edinburgh Fringe productions during August, we advise you arrive at least 30 minutes before doors open for your selected show to collect your festival tickets to avoid any delays.
Please be aware that some productions will request photo ID upon collect of your tickets and postage will not be available.
Once a delivery or collection method is selected, it cannot be changed.
CAN I BUY/COLLECT TICKETS IN PERSON?
You can buy tickets in person at The Stand Edinburgh box office, which is open 10am to 7pm Mon-Fri and 12-7pm Sat, or at The Stand Newcastle box office bistro, which is open daily from 5pm to 11pm. Please note that Glasgow does not have a box office and is only open to the public at the door times stated for each performance.
WHAT COUNTS AS A CONCESSION TICKET?
Concessions apply to the following and we require the following ID:
Students 18+ in full time education
Valid Matriculation Card
Anyone receiving unemployment/incapacity benefit or disabled living allowance
Job seekers' letter
Letter confirming entitlement to benefit
DOES MY TICKET GUARANTEE ME A SEAT/RESERVE ME A SEAT?
No, our venues have unreserved seating and standing room. We recommend that you arrive as close to doors opening time as possible if you want to get a seat. Although the majority of the venue is seated, those who arrive after all the seats are taken stand in the bar area. If you have a disability or are unable to stand for any reason then you must contact us in advance.
CAN WE BOOK SEATS FOR A GROUP?
No, all our venues have unreserved seating and standing room. It's up to your group to get in early for seats.
WHEN SHOULD I ARRIVE TO GET A SEAT?
It's better to arrive as close to the doors opening as possible as the clubs fill up quickly, especially at weekends.
CAN WE PRE BOOK OUR SEATS TO EAT?
No, our venues have unreserved seating and standing room. If you are looking to eat in Edinburgh or from the venue menu in Newcastle then we'd recommend you arrive for the doors opening to get seats. If you want to eat in the Newcastle Bistro above the venue you can book a table there by calling 0191 232 0707
DO YOU SERVE FOOD?
In Glasgow we have a limited selection of hot toasted sandwiches available at our weekend evening shows.
CAN WE ORDER FOOD AND DRINK IN ADVANCE?
If you are coming in a large group to our Edinburgh venue then we recommend you pre-order your food. If you're coming in a small group or to our Glasgow venue then you can just order when you arrive. In Newcastle we take bookings in advance for our bistro on 0191 232 0707. If you prefer you can just order on the night from the menu in the club. Alcohol cannot be pre-ordered and bar tabs are not available, in accordance with licensing laws.
DO YOU DO GROUP DISCOUNTS?
No, we try to keep ticket prices are low as possible for everyone.
HOW LATE CAN I ARRIVE?
If you have paid in advance for your tickets you can arrive at any point before the show starts. Please be aware that for some productions, latecomers may not be admitted or may be asked to wait until a suitable break in the show to join the audience. This is especially true for Edinburgh Fringe productions. We have unreserved seating and standing room so we recommend you arrive early if you want seats.
WHAT TIME DOES THE SHOW FINISH AT?
Most shows run for 2 hours, including intervals, but can run on slightly. Generally week day shows will finish about 10.30pm and Friday and Saturday shows will end around 11.15pm. Please check the approximate end time during booking. Customers who may be required to leave early can do so without issue.
CAN WE HECKLE/TALK DURING THE PERFORMANCE?
No, we want everyone to enjoy their night out and our clubs and aim for a theatre-like environment when the acts are on stage. Some performers encourage audience interaction, in which case feel free to join in when you are spoken to. Please don't be offended if we ask you to be quiet - other people have paid to listen to comedy, not you and your friends.
IF WE CAN'T MAKE THE SHOW, CAN WE GET A REFUND?
Guaranteed refunds must be requested 24 hours before the doors opening time by contacting our box office on 0131 558 9005 during office hours or by emailing email@example.com.
Refund requests after this stage are at the discretion of the company and promoters however we will always try to help our customers if we have the opportunity to sell the tickets on. Accepted refunds will be made for the ticket sale amount and will not include booking or postage fees unless there is company fault. Please note: We cannot refund tickets on the door on the night.
ARE THERE ANY AGE RESTRICTIONS ON SHOWS?
The majority of our evening shows are over 18s. Daytime, early evening shows of festival productions at all of our venues can vary in age guidance so please check at time of booking. We also operate a challenge 25 policy so if you're lucky enough to look younger then you will be asked for ID. We only accept a UK or European driver's license, a valid passport or proof of age card bearing a PASS hologram.
